Sailing Lessons

US Sailing Instructor, Mike Sealey will be working with his team through Butte Sailing Club at the Forebay next to the Aquatic Center.

Mike writes “My directive is Safety, Fun and Learning.  We want to make sure that sailing is FUN for our student, they expect to be SAFE.  We hope they LEARN.  Our fleet of Vagabond 14 are easy to rig and ideal for all levels, but be prepared to get wet during capsize drill”

Our courses are designed for those with little or no sailing experience. It can also serve as a refresher course for those who have not recently sailed.

Group Sailing Lesson - $125.00

Session 1 - July 11, 18, 25 and Aug 1st

Session 2 - August 8, 15, 22, 29

Kids Sailing Camp 2019 - $175.00

Kids Camp will be on a Thursday, Friday 5-8pm, Saturday 10–4pm, and Sunday 10-4pm.

Session 3 -August 1, 2 ,3, 4 - Thursday and Friday from 5-8p, then Saturday and Sundays 4-7pm.

The 1- hour course covers boating safety, knots, rigging and sailing theory. On the water skills such as boat handling, docking, sail trim and capsize recovery will be taught on our club sailboats. Upon successful completion of this course graduates will be awarded a free two-hour rental card and are eligible to rent Vanguard 14’s and join the Butte Sailing Club. This class follows the guidelines set by US Sailing but does not offer a US Sailing certificate.  USCG Life Jackets and Safety Whistle provided.   10 Students per camp. 

The book used for this course is the Learn Sailing Right Beginning Sailing book (IBSN: 978-0-979467-2-1). The book is not included in the cost of the class, but a copy is recommended. 

Sailing summer camp is where it’s at! Butte Sailing Club at the Forebay takes pride in its sailing summer camp program and offers kids the opportunity to gain experience in the safe environment of sailing camp.  Join this classic water sport at any level; and if you put your mind and effort to it, you can become a skipper, too.  Give it a try – Take the tiller in your hand and helm the boat in your very first sailing lesson.
